Adult Ministry

Our church is filled with adults of all ages, and our ministry with adults tries to meet the needs of all age groups.

Many of our adult ministries are connected with our Sunday Bible Study classes.  Each week, age groups or interest groups meet to explore God’s Word and to form relationships that are genuine and caring.  Our adults celebrate the good times together, and when death or sickness strikes, our adults are there providing meals, comfort, and loving care.

Some of our adults enjoy special ministries we provide.  Several women’s groups meet regularly for Bible Study and mission action.  Our men have a fellowship breakfast every Thursday morning (except in the summers).  We offer retreats and special studies.  Some of these studies look at biblical or ethical issues, while others help young parents cope with the demands of raising their children.

As you will see on the music section of this website, we have places for adults who enjoy music.  Whether you’re a beginning hand-bell ringer, a singer, or an instrumentalist, we have a place for you in one of our many musical ensembles.

Not only do we provide ministries to adults, but we provide places where adults can be involved in the significant work of our church.  Several of our task groups work with the underprivileged of our area.  Each summer, we have work teams that assist Appalachian Outreach in its home repair ministry.  Sometimes our adults go on mission trips to meet the needs of people across the state or across the world.  Some of our adults work with children, with youth, and with college students.  Others find places of service by helping out in the office, helping to prepare meals, or in showing the love of Jesus to homebound people or people in nursing homes.

Our Stephen Ministry is also an important aspect of our adult ministry.  Stephen Ministers are adults who receive over fifty hours of training in meeting the needs of hurting individuals.  Once trained, these Stephen Ministers are available to provide weekly support to individuals who are facing some of the toughest times of their lives – those who are struggling with grief, sickness, divorce or any of the other many crises we face.  As a part of our church, you can receive the caring ministry given by Stephen Ministers or you can be trained to offer that ministry to others.

Our ministerial staff wants to help you connect with the ministries in our church. For more information on how to serve at First Baptist Church, please contact us
