The Happy Trails hike caps off their summer hiking trips to Midnight Hole. The group will travel from the church on Sunday, August 5 at 1 PM to the Big Creek Trailhead off the Waterville Road Exit off interstate 40 (exit 451). The Big Creek Trail follows an old railroad grade that was built in the early 1900's. The trail is a relatively smooth and even surface that climbs gradually over the course of it's 2.1 miles to Mouse Creek Falls. The hike to Midnight Hole is only around 1.5 miles from the trailhead and is very easy for all hikers.
Midnight Hole is a deep, emerald green pool that lies just below a six-foot waterfall flowing between two large boulders. Hikers should wear comfortable shoes and bring water. For those interested in jumping in Midnight Hole, they should wear a swim suit and bring a towel to dry off. The deep pool of water is known to house several fish, so hikers are welcome to bring a snorkel set as well.
