Senior Adult Ministry
Mission Statement
The Senior Adult Ministry under the leadership of the Pastor, Senior Adult Minister, and the support of the Senior Adult Committee, known as the SRAD Committee, coordinates and implements activities, care programs and ministries that will enhance the spiritual, psychological, physical health and social needs of the members of our congregation 55 years old and older.
Publications
The Senior Adult Ministry produces two monthly newsletters focusing on senior adult concerns. The Senior Adult Newsletter contains monthly birthdays, anniversaries, family night dinner menus, humorous and devotional thoughts and general information of interest to senior adults. Home Touch is mailed to our homebound, shut-ins and those in assisted living facilities. It contains scripture, devotions and an activity page that allows interaction with biblical and devotional puzzles and games.
Activities, Ministries and Events:
Prayer Brunch
Each month there is a senior adult prayer brunch. We meet the second Tuesday of each month, unless otherwise scheduled, at 9:30 AM in room 101 for a time of prayer with a focus on senior adult and church family needs. Following the prayer time we leave for brunch and fellowship at a nearby restaurant.
Senior Adult Luncheon
The third Tuesday of every month, excluding November and December, we meet for a covered dish lunch in the fellowship hall. This is a sit-down lunch offering a time of fellowship and a special program.
Monthly Van trips
This is a time of social exploration and enjoyment as we travel to area events and attractions.
Transportation
FBC cares for its people! We have a team of folks who will assist you in getting to an important engagement or appointment (doctor, dentist, hospital, etc.) or run errands. We have a wheelchair van that is useful for this purpose. Please feel free to call when you need assistance… it is never a bother.
Card and letter writing
Thanks to a number of volunteers, we have a group of dedicated card and letter writers who send correspondence to our shut-ins and homebound. If you know of any one who needs a contact from their church family, please let us know.
Hands of Fellowship
This is a mutual interest group for those who enjoy sewing, handiwork and quilting. This group meets twice a month. If interested call the church office for additional information.
Senior Adults caring for Senior Adults
There is a variety of other caring ministries whereby our church family has an opportunity to serve in Kingdom’s work. If you are willing to be a “care person,” call the Minister to Senior Adults or the church office.
Darby House Bible Study
Each Thursday, at 10:30 AM, our church conducts a Bible study and worship service for our friends at Darby House, an assisted-living community near our church.
Regency Bible Study
On the last Wednesday evening of each month our church conducts a Bible study for the residents of Regency Assisted-Living in nearby Morristown.
